Maartje de Lint

Maartje de Lint is the founder and artistic director of Singing in Care (Zingen in de Zorg). She studied classical singing and opera at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam and performed as a soloist in the Netherlands and internationally, including over twenty years as a member of the chorus of the Dutch National Opera.

Her experience singing with people with memory-related challenges inspired her to establish Singing in Healthcare, with the aim of supporting people living with brain-related challenges through the power of singing.

Maartje developed programs such as Singing for the Brain, for adults with neurocognitive challenges; Singing for Women, supporting women during hormonal transitions such as menopause; and Singing with Seniors. All programs focus on enhancing physical and emotional well-being through shared singing.

She also founded the Singing in Healthcare Academy, where she developed the Care-Singer course for professionals working at the intersection of singing and healthcare. In addition, she offers tailored training programs and presentations for healthcare professionals, including physicians and nursing specialists.

Maartje de Lint also leads the Singing for Seniors training programme at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. She designed the accompanying programme for the Netherlands Chamber Choir’s performance of Forgotten, and developed the vocal programme A Song Sings Within Me for people living with Dementia at the Leipzig Opera in Germany.

Maartje also delivered an online train-the-trainer course for the Hong Kong Arts Festival project Sing for Life, focused on art, inclusion, and well-being.

Maartje has published several books in the Netherlands and Germany, including Singing with Dementia, a German handbook published by Springer Nature. The book offers a practical framework for developing vocal programmes for seniors within cultural and care settings such as opera houses and concert halls.

Slowing down, softening, and quieting form the foundation of our work. Only then can we offer our full attention to another. And when we begin to sing, something profound can happen..”
